Architecture studio ACPV Architects has recently broke ground on the 70-storey The Residences at 1428 Brickell skyscraper in Miami, which is clad in “500 photovoltaic-integrated windows”.

Located at 1428 Brickell in Miami’s Brickell neighbourhood, the residential skyscraper is set to contain 195 units, as well as amenities such as a fitness centre, rooftop deck and shared lounge.

It is being developed by local firm Ytech, while Milan-based architecture studio ACPV Architects designed the tower, with Miami-based studio Arquitectonica acting as architect-of-record.

Renders of the building show a tower fronted with a facade of undulating terraces. This facade faces Miami’s Biscayne Bay, while the back of the tower faces the surrounding city and curves slightly inwards.

The building will be partially powered by photovoltaic-integrated glass according to the team

According to the team, this west-facing facade will be outfitted with photovoltaic-integrated windows that comprise a “solar backbone”, making the building “the world’s first luxury, high-rise residential tower to integrate photovoltaic glazing within the building’s facade”.

Overseen by solar energy consultant Cosentini Associates, the 20,000 square feet (1,858 square metre) of photovoltaic glass is capable of producing 175,000 kWh of energy per year, which will be used to power the building.

The tower sits upon a cubic base, topped with greenspace and clad in an opaque white stone.

According to ACPV Architects, the overall, curvilinear design “expresses a profound sense of artistic harmony”.

“The Residences at 1428 Brickell’s architecture is a sculptural expression of fluidity, with shape playing a major role in its makeup,” said ACPV Architects CEO Patricia Viel.

“The organic softness and wind-sculpted exterior devoid of sharp corners, as well as its emphasis on materiality, were chosen to express a profound sense of artistic harmony.”

It was also shaped by preliminary studies that examined “circulation patterns, sightlines, and the relationship between the building and its urban surroundings”.

“As the world turns and the sun rises and sets, the tower’s body will showcase movement, bringing the building to life,” said Viel. “Its brightness, simplicity, and glassy look further assist with this, moulding it effortlessly into the skyline.”

A neutral palette was used throughout the interiors

The building contains a lobby and amenities in its base, while storeys 10 through 65 contain residential units. The tower’s top is devoted to additional amenities and a rooftop observatory.

Renders of the interiors, also designed by ACPV Architects, show a predominately neutral palette and the use of stone and wood-panelled ceilings throughout the project.

“The architecture and interior design of The Residences at 1428 Brickell fuse seamlessly to make residents feel welcome and at ease from the moment they enter the building,” said chairman of ACPV Architects Antonio Citterio.

The project broke ground in November 2025 and is currently under construction, with completion slated for 2028.

Other in-progress projects in the Miami area include an “ultra-modern” skyscraper by Behar Font & Partners and a prism-shaped tower for Safra National Bank by Foster + Partners as part of a boom of development in the city.
