Dezeen Showroom: Canadian design studio Yabu Pushelberg looked to the streets of Brazil and the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer to design this lounge chair for US brand Man of Parts.

The Rua Ipanema chair is composed of sweeping lines, giving it the dynamic feel of Niemeyer’s modernist buildings.

The Rua Ipanema chair references the urban landscape of Rio de Janeiro

Yabu Pushelberg also wanted to reference another element of Brazil’s urban landscape: the patterned mosaic sidewalks of Rio de Janeiro’s Rua Ipanema, the beachside street that gives the chair its name.

Together, these elements come together in a design that is intended to have a relaxed elegance that speaks of Brazil.

Made in Italy, the Rua Ipanema chair sits on a swivel base in either a walnut veneer or anthracite finish, and can be ordered with an optional lumbar cushion or throw pillow.

It can be upholstered in either fabric or leather, including the client’s own material, and there is the option to use contrasting fabric for the shell and cushions.
