With just four weeks left until entries close, Dezeen Awards judges, including architect Simon Allford, interior designer Tatjana Von Stein and designer Benjamin Hubert, explained more about the positive impacts of winning an award.

Founder of creative agency Layer, Hubert, believes that awards provide an opportunity to have your work seen by leading professionals from the international design community.

“Awards offer an opportunity to critically assess your work – to reflect on its strengths, challenges, and potential, while viewing it through the lens of external judges and the wider design community,” Hubert told Dezeen.

“It’s a moment of both vulnerability and validation, opening up your ideas to scrutiny and recognition,” he explained.

“Beyond that, awards serve as a powerful platform for visibility, helping to communicate your work to a broader audience and reinforcing its impact in the industry.”

“Be part of a larger creative community”

French-German interior designer Von Stein agreed and said awards “are a fantastic opportunity to be part of a larger creative community”.

“I remember winning an award for one of our first restaurants – it was a huge milestone,” she said. “But in the end, I believe it’s less about winning and more about believing in your work enough to put it forward.”

“This industry can be tough, and every small step forward makes a difference,” added Von Stein. “Entering awards is a way to celebrate progress, push yourself, and stay connected to the ever-evolving design landscape.”

Meanwhile, English architect and past RIBA president Allford believes that Dezeen Awards give a distinct chance to learn and seek new clients.

“Awards offer the opportunity for peer review and recognition, which is good for morale and future work,” said Allford.
