In this week’s comments update, readers are discussing a micro home made from a section of a decommissioned wind turbine, created by Dutch design studio Blade-Made.
The micro home, which features a simple, wood-lined interior, was designed to demonstrate new uses for wind turbines that have reached the end of their working life.
“A good use of what would normally be discarded”
Not all Dezeen readers were sold. “Not really sure how furring, insulating and plumbing things like this is more cost-effective than just a new frame built little building,” proposed Prado Sellinder. “The same problem with shipping contained converts,” they said.
However, Jim Angrabright hit back to say “all the energy, materials and man-hours that have already been sunk into this object would be lost if one were to trash it or recycle it”.
Jason Long was in agreement, suggesting the design was “a good use of what would normally be discarded”. They went on to propose that “it actually looks quite spacious – I’m sure there are many who would love to live in this and call it home”.
“Great re-use project,” commended Steve Hassler, before asking “why no windows?”

“Touchscreens are a dangerous distraction”
Dezeen readers were also responding to an interview with British architect Norman Foster in which he suggested that the proliferation of touchscreens in cars is “dangerous”.
“He’s not wrong,” stated Radiohedgefund in a comment that was upvoted 16 times. They reflected that “you can be arrested for using your phone whilst driving, but not the touchscreen dash”.
This sentiment was echoed by Patrick Hyland, who asked “it’s so strange – you’re not allowed to use your phone or tablet whilst driving, but having a tablet-esque dashboard is ok?”
Alfred Hitchcock agreed, writing “touchscreens are far cheaper to manufacture and install than buttons and switches – they are a dangerous distraction and using them is just like using a mobile phone in your hand whilst driving, which is illegal in the UK.”
Meanwhile, Heywood Floyd was in disbelief. “The fact that this needs to be stated at all summarises where our society is headed,” they scorned.

“Amazon got botox in its lips after 20 years”
Another story that got commenters talking this week was the news that Amazon has rebranded its distinct smile logo.
“18 months for this?” asked a bemused D.B. Cooper, while commenter APG wrote “I’m in the wrong job… if you can get paid to do this”.
Others couldn’t resist the opportunity for irony. “Amazing stuff, no fee would have been enough for this,” said RK. “Oh my god, with such drastic changes, I wouldn’t even know that new logo was Amazon’s,” added Miles Teg.
“Amazon got botox in its lips after 20 years,” observed Dyzajn.
Meanwhile, Roxann didn’t sugar coat their reaction, calling the rebrand “a ludicrous waste of money.”
