This week on Dezeen, we revealed this year’s Serpentine Pavilion, which was designed by Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum.
Made from four arched timber structures, the pavilion, named A Capsule in Time, is organised around a central courtyard containing a single tree.
Dezeen showcased the pavilion in a film, while Tabassum explained her aims for the pavilion in an interview.
Also in the UK capital, this year’s London Design Biennale opened at Somerset House. We rounded up the key installations at the event including giant multi-person urns and the world’s first known organisational chart.
Ahead of the opening, we interviewed the biennale’s artistic director Samuel Ross, who told Dezeen that British design needs to become more political.
In celebration of Norman Foster’s 90th birthday, we’ve rounded up 12 of the most impactful projects from his nearly six-decades-long career.

In other architecture news, we reported on the plans to build a bridge between Egypt and Saudi Arabia across the Red Sea.
“We have now completed the planning for the bridge between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and are ready to implement it at any time, whether a bridge or a tunnel,” said Egypt’s transport minister Kamel al-Wazir.
In the US, construction started on the Torch supertall skyscraper at 740 Eighth Avenue in New York.
Designed by studios ODA and SLCE, the 51-storey skyscraper will be topped with a spiralling crown that may hold an above-city thrill ride.
Popular projects this week included a burnt orange-toned house near Barcelona, the renovation of a mid-century house in LA and a viewpoint made from imitation stone in China.
