Dezeen Showroom: vintage furniture manufacturer Dagmar has relaunched designer Severin Hansen’s Model 36 desk, a classic work of Danish modern design originally released in 1958.

The solid wood Model 36 desk is distinguished by its tapered legs and three-way mitred joints.

The Model 36 desk is characterised by three-way mitred joints and elegantly tapered legs

It was created at the start of Hansen’s career, when he was just 22. With no formal training as a designer or cabinetmaker, Hansen created work with “a fearlessly pure quality” that broke with tradition, according to Dagmar.

“Severin Hansen’s Model 36 desk is arguably the finest to be designed during the Danish Modern period,” said Dagmar. “It was a design so ahead of its time that it looks distinctly contemporary even by today’s standard.”

The Model 36 desk is part of the wider Margrethe collection, named in honour of recent queen of Denmark Margrethe II, an admirer of Hansen’s work and the owner her own Model 36 desk.

Four slim drawers are arranged across the front of the desk, providing ample storage within the desk’s slimline frame. It is available in either solid oak or walnut wood.
