As an avid cruise-going globetrotter with a dozen (and counting) voyages under my belt, I’ve turned packing into an art form. Gone are the days of pre-flight stress and anxiety, and the worries of overweight cases and check-in crises. I’m no longer the poster child for overpacking (my friends have the packing meme comparisons to prove it!). Now it’s time to embrace being the queen of pre-flight Cosmo sipping, while I sit back and relax before I bid my daily life adieu.

Now it’s time to let you in on my secrets! With my extensive cruise experience, I have found a bunch of organizational hacks that will streamline your packing process and ensure a clutter-free cabin. Read below for my go-to tips.

You can save space in your case by rolling your clothes instead of folding. This method will typically keep your clothes wrinkle-free, too!

These nifty little organizers are a total game-changer. If you’re firmly a folder and not a roller, these are made for you. Packing cubes keep your stuff neat and easy to find, while saving on space in the process, allowing you to be in control even in the midst of a fashion minefield.

    3. Bring an over-the-door organizer.

Hang an over-the-door shoe organizer in your cabin to stash smaller items like tights, accessories, makeup, and shoes in style. No more desperate searching and bag emptying to find your favorite lipstick or scarf.

    4. Go for a capsule wardrobe.

This is perfect for anyone seeking a more minimalist style while traveling. With a carefully curated collection of clothing items, you can mix and match to create a variety of different outfits. Pack a few key pieces that can be worn in different combinations, and save on packing and hanging space. Neutral shades are a winner here and can be enhanced with vibrant accessories.

    5. Swap out your regular toiletries.

By using refillable and reusable travel-sized bottles, you can free up space in your suitcase while also reducing single-use plastics that harm the environment. Many shops now offer clear 100-milliliter bottles that perfect for popping in your hand luggage.

    6. Store things in vacuum-sealed storage bags.

Vacuum-sealed storage bags are a must for compressing bulky items like jackets and sweaters. They’ll help you to feel efficient and prepared for any weather or occasion while you’re away. It’s also the perfect way to travel with your winter coat if you’ll be returning to a much colder climate.

    7. Buy collapsible luggage.

No more tripping over a hard-shell suitcase! Using lightweight, collapsible luggage makes storage in your cabin a breeze. Once you’ve unpacked you can tuck the case away in any spare space and steer clear of stubbed toes.

    8. Coordinate with your squad.

Traveling with someone else, or going on a group vacation? Team up to share bulky items and avoid unnecessary duplicates, while feeling connected with your friends. This helps to save on space while also keeping outfits feeling fresh and new.

Did you know that many areas in cruise cabins (walls and ceilings included) are magnetic? Make the most of this by packing some magnetic hooks to hang bags, scarves, hats, and jackets, or by pinning up itineraries and postcards. This really adds a personal touch to your cabin, making the space feel less temporary and more like a home away from home.

Utilize onboard laundry services, or freshen up with DIY laundry kits to keep your clothes clean and reusable during your cruise.

These are my favorite tips to enhance any cruise experience, as they help you to plan ahead, stay organized, minimize space, and maximize your enjoyment. I’ll definitely be using them on my next getaway aboard the luxurious Explora 2, Explora Journeys’ newest ship that has indulgent suites, five-star dining, and ocean wellness programs.
