My gift-wrapping process used to be utterly disastrous. Although I had a dedicated closet to corral supplies, a mess would ensue almost every time I sought to wrap a present. I knew I had to make it better before the holiday season rolled around (a prime gift-giving time). So last year I sought to overhaul my entire wrapping process, along with the dedicated closet.

I asked an organizer friend for advice on improving my system. I sent her photos of the space, and she assured me she had a simple solution. She recommended that I purchase this over-the-door rack from The Container Store. Here’s why it’s been such a game-changer in my closet.

Why I Love This Over-the-Door Rack

Although this organizer is pricey at $173, I can attest that it is worth every penny. It’s extremely durable, the installation is easy, and the organizer is customizable to suit your needs. To install, all you have to do is hang the main metal bracket over the closet door and then attach each section of the organizer.

It fits flush with the closet door at the top and the bottom, which keeps the organizer from banging when you close the door. The sections are easily adjustable to fit your needs. In fact, I think stocking all the wrapping essentials took longer than the process of hanging and assembling the organizer!

Now, my rolls of wrapping paper are neatly contained at the bottom of the organizer so that I can quickly see and grab what I need. The six hooks that are included are convenient for hanging scissors (placed up high so small hands cannot reach them, as opposed to a drawer) and holiday bags, and stowing away tape dispensers. The four acrylic bins are a perfect size for ribbons and bows.

Everything is in plain sight, but tightly and neatly organized in one spot and only taking up the space — that would typically go unused — on the back of the closet door in my home office. It’s a savvy organization station, and I’m so glad my friend suggested it. And once the holidays are over I can simply change out the wrapping paper and gift bags for birthday-themed ones, so I can keep using this organizer year-round.
