Every year when I go to pull out my holiday decor, I’m met with simultaneous feelings of excitement and dread. I look forward to decorating my home with my treasured items for the season, but inevitably brace for the possibility that they’ve endured a knock or blow from being placed in storage the preceding year. Sure, accidents happen, but if they can be prevented with better, smarter storage options I am definitely on board with that.
Specifically, my breakable Christmas figurines don’t have a dedicated space. When storing my cherished Mistletoe Santa figurine that my mother-in-law gave to me and my husband on our first Christmas as a married couple, I do my best to wrap it well in tissue paper before placing it in a plastic tub with many other holiday items. I treat my nativity glass snow globe my husband gave me before we were married the same way. I admit storing breakables in a box with various other decorative holiday items is not the best way.
Enter: The Simplify Holiday Figurine Statue Storage Box, made expressly to protect holiday breakable figurines. I recently tried this box out as I brought items out. I wanted to see if it would work well for storage after the season. I immediately appreciated quite a few details about this box for storing precious holiday figurines.
First, it was easy to put together. I just popped it out of the plastic wrap, folded out the cardboard to make the box, and placed the inserts, which are very thick and sturdy. It was very roomy — it can fit eight figurines — which is convenient if you have multiple fragile items to store. Additionally, it’s incredibly lightweight. I have high shelves that my holiday boxes are on in my basement, so lifting heavy ones is not on my to-do list during the holiday season, and thankfully it will never be with this find.
Because I only have four breakable figurines, I plan to place smaller items into the remaining slots, such as a framed needlepoint Nutcracker my aunt made and some large round glass ornaments (I do plan to use bubble wrap or tissue paper to cushion them during storage) that have also been rolling around in a plastic storage bin.
I also loved that I didn’t need to wrap anything in tissue paper or bubble wrap, as the walls of the inserts have enough padding to keep items safe. However, if you are concerned with any movement, you certainly can wrap everything, like I did with the smaller items.
The only drawback I found was that one of the heirloom Santas passed down from my husband’s grandmother was slightly too tall for the box. I will still store it there, though, and just deal with a slight lift on one side of the box. After all, there is nothing I plan to store on top of the box on my holiday storage shelf, so the fact that it was slightly too tall wasn’t a huge issue.
