Kengo Kuma and Associates took inspiration from the “ethereal beauty” of classical Japanese Noh theatre in their design of the Banyan Tree hotel in Kyoto, which includes a stage discreetly nestled within its terraced gardens.

Commenters praised the project for its “beautiful timber joinery”, while another described it as “a treat of sophisticated simplicity”.
