The latest edition of our Dezeen Debate newsletter features Zaha Hadid Architects’ starfish-like cultural centre in Italy. Subscribe to Dezeen Debate now.

The Centre of Mediterranean Culture, which is currently under construction on a coastal site in Reffio Calabria, has a design that draws on the “radial symmetry of a starfish”.

One reader called the design “embarrassingly trite”, while another described it as “actually quite elegant and interesting”.

Other stories in this week’s newsletter that stoked up discussion in the comments section included news about Patrik Schumacher wading into architecture’s culture wars, a leather handbag that functions as a fully operational remote-control car and a holiday home in the Stockholm archipelago.
