Dezeen Competitions: Museum of Emotions challenges contestants to design a museum that evokes positive and negative emotions without using any text in their entry.
Organised by Buildner, the competition is the sixth in its “silent competition series” where participants solely use visuals to convey their ideas. Designs should utilise architecture to create emotional states by considering space, colour, lighting and material choice.

Competition overview
As part of a series of annual architecture competitions, the Museum of Emotions competition tasks participants with using architecture as a tool to bring out different emotions.
Participants are asked to design a museum that includes two separate halls that bring out contrasting emotions – one inducing negative emotions and the other inducing positive emotions.
Museum of Emotions/Edition #6 is one of the platform’s silent competitions, in which participants must communicate their ideas without the use of any text. The design concept and thinking behind it must all be communicated solely through the use of visuals.
Eligibility and judging criteria
The competition is open to any participant aged 18 and over. Proposals can be submitted individually or by teams of up to four individuals.
Submissions are judged based on their ideas – participants can choose any site location, real or imaginary, as well as the size of their structure.

How to enter
All submissions must be uploaded via the upload panel:
- Participants must communicate their ideas without the use of any text
- Participants are required to upload one A2 landscape-orientated presentation board with sketches, renderings, plans, sections, elevations, diagrams and/or other presentation tools to explain their proposal
- No video files are accepted
- Access information and instructions on how to upload the presentation boards will be issued to participants via email immediately after successful registration
- Presentation boards must not indicate any information related to an individual’s/team’s identity
Submission deadlines
All participants must register for submission by 27 March 2025. The closing date for submissions is 29 April 2025.
Winners will be announced on 12 June 2025.
