Dezeen has selected four of the best designers at this year’s Look Book by Wanted exhibition, one of the largest showcases at the ICFF design fair.
Taking place during NYCxDesign, the exhibition spotlights pieces by over 60 North American architects and designers, highlighting furniture, lighting and design objects.
This year, Dezeen has focused on pieces that exemplify functional design and the use of considered materials, including multi-use pieces, furniture made from discarded household objects and longevity-centred design.
“With all the collectible design during NYCxDesign this year, we wanted to focus on practical works that prioritise problem solving, from Lauren Goodman’s utilisation of waste for furniture production to Eric Jacoby’s reimagining of the often-ignored format of the folding chair,” said Dezeen’s US editor Ben Dreith.

Ethiopian American designer Jomo Tariku’s furniture was informed by his African heritage and the continent’s modern design style, from silhouette to materials.
The designer’s collection includes chairs and benches, predominantly made from woods such as ash and walnut, as well as a series of birch stools, each of which can also function as a side table.
Montreal-based designer Lauren Goodman creates furniture using materials sourced from local suppliers and waste distribution centres.
Her pieces at Look Book by Wanted were made from discarded oil barrels, ironing boards, lobster traps, bird feeders, steel tubes and slate, reshaped into functional forms with additions of bronze and paint.
Anony is a Toronto-based design studio making lighting and design objects in which the lifecycle of the piece is considered at all stages, the brand said.
Anony’s collections incorporate metals, wire, glass and stone that are turned into pendant and sconce lights, floor and table lamps and tableware.
Eric Jacoby is a Salt Lake City-based designer with a background in architecture, working with wood and metals to manufacture furniture and toys.
Among his other pieces, Jacoby showcased the Tectonic folding chair at Look Book for Wanted.
