Promotion: Swiss elevator and escalator brand Schindler has unveiled the Schindler X8 at Milan design week 2025, which aims to give architects more creative freedom.

Schindler X8 is designed to be a “true breakthrough in elevator technology” and enables a simpler, more accessible design process.

“Architects have designed building interiors around an immovable, central elevator shaft for decades,” said Donato Carparelli, chief technology officer on Schindler’s Group Executive Committee. “With the Schindler X8, we are removing that limitation and bringing new levels of simplicity and accessibility to design.”

Schindler Group explained that installing its Schindler X8 lift is an easy, flexible process. It requires no pit, no headroom and no concrete structural shaft, allowing greater adaptability for integration in buildings.

“With Schindler X8 owners and architects can fulfill their vision and bring to life user experiences that were previously impossible,” said Carparelli. “[The elevator] has a streamlined and smart process that allows customers to configure Schindler X8 in five minutes and a total time required for production, delivery, installation and handover that can be minimised to three weeks.”

Schindler explained that the lift only requires a standard power supply and similarly to a common appliance, can be plugged into a single-phase outlet, making it easily adaptable to existing buildings.

Schindler X8 also comes with an updated maintenance offering where it is continuously monitored for uninterrupted service.

The company explained that Schindler X8 aims to exude sophistication and features doors that require a single cutout, meaning the floors and ceilings of the building can be finished before the elevator is on site.

This also means that the door’s frameless, minimal look fits harmoniously with the building’s interior, according to Schindler, while the new “uniarrow” landing operating panel replaces traditional call buttons and simplifies the user experience.

Schindler X8 comes in six pre-set interiors in a neutral colour palette to “match any home interior aesthetic”, allowing designers and homeowners to choose the configuration that best fits their aesthetic.

“At Milan design week we will present an exciting new technology that offers a novel and more flexible way of designing urban life,” said Carparelli. “By rethinking the elevator, we are facilitating new paths to an improved quality of life and explore segments that previously were inaccessible for vertical mobility solutions.”
