Swedish furniture brand Svenskt Tenn filled a canal-side Copenhagen apartment with its colourful, patterned furniture, wallpaper and accessories during 3 Days of Design.
The installation marked a rare opportunity for visitors to see Svenskt Tenn‘s goods in person, as the brand only has one retail store in Stockholm.
The apartment showcase, located next to a canal in Copenhagen’s Christianshavn area, was designed to give visitors a feel of what it would be like in a Svenskt Tenn home.
“We were looking for a space that could reflect the intimate and layered feeling of a real home, not a showroom,” Svenskt Tenn head curator Karin Södergren told Dezeen.
“We didn’t want to recreate a showroom – we wanted to bring our universe to life in a way that felt real, lived-in, and soulful,” she continued.
“Presenting the exhibition in a residential apartment allowed us to fully express that vision: layered rooms, a sense of daily life, and a warm, inspiring atmosphere that invited visitors to truly step inside a Svenskt Tenn home.”
The 270-square-metre apartment was filled with a curated selection of the brand’s eclectic goods, including its colourful patterned wallpaper by designer Josef Frank.
“There’s a thoughtful mix of furniture, textiles, lighting, and art – we decided to showcase replicas of Josef Frank’s original pattern drawings on the walls – each object chosen not just for its design but for what it could bring to the room,” Södergren said.
“From the engraved tabletops to the reissued Flora Cabinet, the installation reflects our belief in craftsmanship, longevity and joy.”
The natural light in the apartment, which sits on the top floor of a historic block, also played a role in the design of the installation, especially when it came to choosing colours.
One wall in the apartment was painted a bright green, while the upstairs office space featured a wallpaper patterned with spring flowers.
“We embraced tones that would reflect and enhance the brightness of the space: calming greens and a vivid yellow in one of the bathrooms alongside the bold and intricate colourways of Josef Frank’s wallpapers and textiles, such as Eldblomma and Vårklocka,” Södergren explained.
“For the larger rooms, we followed Frank’s own philosophy – keeping the walls white to allow the colours and patterns in the furnishings, rugs, and objects to shine.”
The exhibition marked Svenskt Tenn’s debut at Danish design festival 3 Days of Design.
“Participating in exhibitions and world fairs has always been part of our heritage, so returning to that format at 3 Days of Design felt both meaningful and exciting,” Svenskt Tenn CEO Maria Veerasamy told Dezeen.
“Choosing to participate this year meant that we were able to meet with both trade and industry colleagues and curious customers at the same time, while also staying close to home.”
Other design installations at 3 Days of Design included Charlotte Taylor’s exhibition that doubled as her home and the Bread and Butter exhibition showcasing emerging designers.
