The 1072 West Peachtree skyscraper, designed by architecture studio TVS, is under construction in Atlanta, USA and will be the “tallest building in the city in over 33 years” when completed.

Developed by the New York’s Rockefeller Group and designed by local studio TVS, 1072 West Peachtree is located in Atlanta’s Midtown neighbourhood and comprises a glass residential skyscraper atop stone-clad parking and office volumes.

According to Rockefeller Group, the 60-storey skyscraper is “rapidly rising” and construction has “exceeded the 20th floor”, noting that concrete pouring is complete in the lower office levels and the tower’s structure is underway.

Renders of the project show the 228-metre-tall (749 feet) glass skyscraper rising from the lower-level podium.  The building is divided into three main volumes: a 9-storey parking podium at the base, an eight-storey gridded office block and the residential tower, which is clad almost completely in glass.

According to Rockefeller Group, the building will be Atlanta’s tallest residential tower.

“1072 West Peachtree is the tallest building to be built in Atlanta in over 33 years, and once topped out later this year, it will be the tallest residential and tallest mixed-use building in Atlanta, as well as the fifth tallest building in the city overall,” said the developer.

The tenth floor will contain amenities such as fitness spaces, lounges and “Atlanta’s largest outdoor amenity deck”, shown tucked underneath the office block, which spans stories 11 through 18.

Warm-toned limestone and concrete encircle the building’s base.

Commercial dining and retail will be located around the project’s ground level, which will feature separate lobbies for the residential and office storeys.

The project is slated for 2026 completion.

Currently, the Bank of America Plaza skyscraper, designed by Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates, is the city’s tallest building, standing 312 metres tall (1,023 feet). Many of the other tallest buildings are located nearby on Peachtree Street.

Other large-scale development in the city includes the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, completed in 2017 by HOK and office buildings connected by a glass bridge by Olson Kundig.
