Why I Love Interior Define’s Sloan Chaise Sleeper

My first big, “adult” home purchase was a sofa. After more than a decade living with a much-loved hodgepodge of hand-me-downs and bargain finds, I decided it was time to really invest in a piece of furniture. And what better than a couch, which you use every single day (and sometimes night when I doze off during a Real Housewives binge). I bought an Interior Define Sloan sectional in a shade of royal blue, and it lived up to every expectation. It was comfortable and stylish — I even ended up hosting an Apartment Therapy video series on it during those long months of pandemic lockdown. I thought it was my forever couch.

But fast-forward to 2024 — a new apartment and two small kids later — and my functional needs had totally changed. I wanted a sleeper sofa to host friends and family coming to see my kids so they didn’t have to pay NYC hotel prices. I wanted something that could endure being used as raw materials for a fort, despite my protests. And I desperately, desperately wanted to maximize every square inch of space in our small two-bedroom as it became overtaken with more toys each day. All that, and I still felt attached to the style of that original, beautiful sofa I’d picked out seven or so years ago.

Enter: the Sloan Chaise Sleeper Storage Sectional. When I realized that my beloved sofa came with a pull-out mattress and a large storage compartment, I was sold. Interior Define offered to send me one to try out, and six months later, I’m here to report back.

    Design Features That Stand Out

I love the design of the Sloan, and was happy I could maintain the look with all of the added functionality of a sleeper and extra storage. It has modern, clean lines that fit well in our living room. The original blue color I had wasn’t available anymore, so I chose royal performance velvet. Interior Define will send you 10 free swatches so you can feel them and see how they look with your particular setup and lighting. There are also three different leg colors — I picked natural oak. And I opted for the bench cushion.

You can customize the chaise length, too (I went with “long” or 73 inches, which fills my space well).

When the sofa first arrived, it felt like an identical twin who switched places. At first glance, it was almost the same, but it was a little bigger and a little newer than the old one. I knew the style was exactly right, but over the past six months, it has absolutely delivered on performance. It’s comfy for a family movie night — all four of us fit on it easily, and it can accommodate an extra friend or two. I prefer a soft sofa, so I upgraded to the double down blend fill for the cushion — to me, it was the just-right softness without feeling like you’re sinking. If you’re on the fence, Interior Define has showrooms in 11 states where you can feel the sofas in real life.

The sleeper honestly exceeded my expectations. Two grandparents and a friend gave it five stars, and while I haven’t slept on it, I absolutely laid on it to try it out. I really wanted to offer a nice guest experience, so I picked the memory foam mattress, which was an extra $200.

And the sectional cushion lifts easily to reveal the storage compartment. I keep two pillows, a set of guest sheets, and a towel in there, plus some of our larger living room baby gear, like a bouncer and a play mat, when it’s not in use.

There are so many customization options with this sofa, so in the end it really feels custom to you and your needs. But that also means each sofa is made to order, and it took a few months for it to arrive. I ordered it in February, and it arrived (via white glove delivery) in May.
